In 2006 the Domaine René Engel was bought by François Pinault, owner of Château Latour in the Médoc, and renamed Domaine d'Eugénie. Frédéric Engerer, Château Latour's director, supervises production assisted by Michel Maillard, a young winemaker, and Pénélope Godefroy, an agricultural engineer. The estate owns parcels located in a prime position in the Vosne-Romanée appellation which include a rare and splendid Grands-Echezeaux. The vineyard is managed in accordance with an integrated pest management approach ('lutte raisonnée') with biodynamic trials taking place on some parcels. The estate favours finesse but the wines are not lacking in boldness or elegance either.
