As has been the case for several vintages now, the vineyard workers take great care to respect the environment, while still experimenting with what constitutes best practice. For Comte Stephan von Neipperg, it is absolutely essential that he bequeath healthy vineyards to future generations.
The majority of the von Neipperg vineyards suffered terribly from the April 2017 frost but the 2018 vintage has proven more generous. The team put enormous effort into protecting the vines from the heavy spring rainfall, taking painstaking care to nurture the Merlots to optimum maturity. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines also required oversight, although they benefitted greatly from a lengthy spell of idyllic sunshine that lasted right into October.
The result is wines that are among the finest expressions of Bordeaux's Right Bank, displaying incredible depth and energy, with beautiful, crunchy black fruit and melting tannins. It seems likely that this will be one of von Neipperg's greatest vintages yet.
