"Once again, our hard work has been rewarded." That is how Estate Director José Sanfins describes the behind-the-scenes thinking about 2018's happy ending: "Nobody would have thought, after such a complicated start to the growing season, that we would harvest such an outstanding vintage."
Despite the highly unpredictable weather, the teams remained determined to stay the course and maintain their high standards. So, once again, they focused their efforts on the vines: targeted pruning, crop thinning and leaf removal where necessary. With more than 50,000 vines to attend to in just eight days, the workforce had to be doubled to get everything done in time.
José emphasises that in the winery, the fermentation was straightforward, with phenolic extraction "that didn't require great effort on our part". But there was a very interesting aspect to the blend: for the first time, Cabernet Francs were included in the top wine.
This vintage looks like one of the appellation's biggest success stories: the wines are pure, dense and harmonious with incredible aromas that linger in the glass.
