The Rouzaud family appear to have gambled and won : ever since they entrusted the keys of their estate to Nicolas Glumineau, the wines just get better and better, expressing ever more clearly the Pauillac style, packed with fruit yet retaining that signature purity.
The restructuring project, begun in 2009, is ongoing. When the vines in a plot age to the point where they lose their expressiveness, they are replanted with Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a choice that makes sense as the climate changes, since Cabernet is better equipped to cope with drought - and the last few years have seen more and more of that.
Regarding the harvest, another intelligent choice has been the decision to give 150 pickers guaranteed employment for a month by offering them supplementary jobs, such as gardening work.
