This estate, an emblem of the Right Bank, has been run for eight generations by the Boüard family. The current family members are united by their affection for the vineyards, their commitment to hard work and their focus on excellence. In 2012, the family had the confidence in Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal to make her the new figurehead - and while she brings immense determination and a clear sense of the family's values to that role, she also has her father Hubert, with his passion for this land, by her side. He moulds each vintage, while at the same time working to pass on to the next generation the expertise that has made Angélus great.
The conversion of the entire vineyard to organic agriculture began in 2018 and is still underway. However, for 15 years before that, the teams had been working hard to preserve the soils and maintain the ecosystem's equilibrium, using ethical techniques such as double guyot pruning (leaving two canes), grassing the vineyard, fertilizing with organic manure and sustainable agriculture. The wine's unique style, opulent yet fresh, is the result of gentle vinification: fermentation at very low temperatures followed by gentle extraction. The Cabernet Francs, which make up 46% of the final blend, were then aged in 32-hectolitre wooden vats.
This is the first year that Le Carillon d'Angélus has had the advantage of its own facilities - they were inaugurated by the 2019 vintage. From now on, the vine area dedicated to Angélus's little brother, which has doubled in the last few years - it has now reached 15ha - will also have the exclusive use of a new vat room. This new cellar will allow for close work on the individual plots, thanks to 18 stainless steel-lined tanks and the same number of inverted tronco-conical vats.
