This year saw a change of ownership at Cantenac Brown: the estate, with its imposing Tudor-style manor, was acquired by the Le Lous family, owners of the Urgo pharmaceutical group. Tristan, the second son, trained as an agronomist; his family have entrusted him with the production of this Margaux Classed Growth. And, thanks to his wife, a native of the Gironde region, he is returning to familiar territory.
He can rely on support from José Sanfins, who has been in charge here since 2006 and oversees the harvest with unswerving rigour. "Every day, we covered kilometres of ground and tasted hundreds of berries, in order to come up with the best plan for harvesting these plots," says Sanfins: "we wanted to make sure of achieving good balance". The blends were assembled while Tristan Le Lous was present; their quality is a real boost for the property.
It was clear from the earliest tastings that this is a supremely classy vintage, fresh, concentrated, with tannins that are noticeable yet delicate.
