Having worked alongside his father since 2015, François-Xavier Maroteaux is now guiding the family estate forwards with great style. His seriousness and his affability have both had a profound impact, inspiring universal confidence. These are also attributes that have proved their wider worth for this fan of great wine. His devotion to the profession has led him to become a member of the Union of Bordeaux Classed Growths, which is where proposals for marketing Bordeaux wines are discussed.
In the vineyard, sustainable agriculture is the strategy and various experiments with organic farming are underway. The quest for precision, as a route to the most accurate expression of the terroir, is ceaseless: plots are vinified individually, in small tanks, with gentle extractions in order to preserve the purity of the fruit.
With the peaceful confidence of work done well, François-Xavier explains: "The 2019 will be a great ambassador for the Branaire style, thanks to aromatic Merlots and perfectly balanced Cabernets." No fan of the Branaire wines will be remotely disappointed, because they will find here all the things they love with a little more accessibility, a little more Merlot and a little less austerity; the result is a wine that gives instant pleasure.
